If you were a big ECW fan like I was you’re sure to want to check out this reunion show with lots of interactive ticket options for the REAL hardcore fans.  One of those options is to tape a promo with the star of your choice for 40 bucks or you can do a “fantasy”seminar with Raven I’m unsure what makes it a fantasy Raven has surely been around long enough to have some knowledge to pass on to the next generation.

Things I miss about PRIDE

Posted in commentary, MMA, Retro, Where are they now? on September 6, 2011 by wtfhwrestling

For the last few weeks I’ve been schooling one of my friends on all the PRIDE fighting classics I can think of.  In celebration of me going back over almost  ten years worth of nostalgia I thought I’d post a few things I miss about Pride.  And ya I know DREAM exists but its just not the same damnit!!

The biggest thing I miss about PRIDE FC is the kicks to a grounded opponent.  Who doesn’t love seeing a headkick in a fight?  Then why not love Shogun Rua soccer kicking the brains out of someone?  Fighting on the ground is alot more accessible to the mainstream knowing the guy lying on top can get up and kick the guys skull in.

The second thing I miss most about Pride was there attitude towards FREAK FIGHTS lol.  Most MMA companies look for the most talented athletes available.  UFC won’t even sanction womens mma under the prehistoric idea its seen as a sideshow.   PRIDE however seemed to find the most outlandish so called fighters and put them to the test against equally unusual opponents.  Butterbean,Bob Sapp,Giant Ochai(RIP),Giant Silva,Hong man Choi or anyone else signing on to fight Ikuhisa Minowa lol.  Zuluzinho and Sentoryu being the most useless to come to mind.  PRIDE never slacked on strangely matched up bouts.  I’m sure if they were still alive and kicking they’d be trying harder than Ken himself possibly to push the upcoming Ken Shamrock James Toney fight, which isn’t a fight I’d actually like to see but is still in the wacky mindset I miss from Japans biggest MMA giant.

In the late 90’s this heavyweight wtfh favorite took on lots of competition and was always impressive.   I was a fan of his work with the Anarchist I guess thats why 3 of these four pics have him in them.   HE was dope too.   That one(smaller) match had a suplex on the floor and the crowd ate it up.   Its always good to see a heavyweight willing to go that extra mile.   Or anyone really.

George THE ANIMAL Steele vs Ms B Haven

George the Animal Steele took on Ron Hutchisons favorite transvestite in MS B Haven.    For the AWF title even?  I think so he/she is wearing the belt and the end was some kind of screwjob ending up in The ANIMAL throwing one of Havens waterballoon boobs at him (getting me wet in the process thanks alot u green tongued bastard)he then chomped a turnbuckle that didn’t explode like they did for him back in the day :(.   Ms B haven never got over w/me just cuz of his name.  He should’ve researched it better before trying to run w/it is all I’m saying really.  Ms b haven was a batman villian an old burlesque dancer and those were just the gimmicks i knew with that name then.  theres probably a million more out now.

CANADIAN GANGSTER

Back when wrestlers were scary lowlifes and legit tough guys (not acrobatic teenbuilt boys we’ve become accustomed to) Johnny k 9 or Bruiser Bedlam held Hamilton down pretty hard.   Promoting occasional shows and(promoting more illicit drugs)facing Hulk Hogan and blowing up a cop shop are just a few of his more infamous points on his resume.   Check his wikipedia if you want a full story I’m too lazy to write all that crazy.   I put this in the where are they now category cuz i’m sure the feds would love to know.  Not that I’d tell them lol.

DANE JARRIS..your damn right he is

One of my favorites from the RWA and where ever he wrestled really was Dane Jarris.  Even though I hated the two names making a phrase gimmick lots of people had at the time(justin credible,TOTAL lee Awesome).  One of my favorite matches of his was outside a bar and he suplexed L’artiste on his car.  Stole his title and drove off with it one of the better indy moments I’ve seen.   He returned to the game in 2007 helping behind the scenes with triple x wrestling as well as doing some cool barbed wire spots for them.   He;s also returning to wrestle a also returning Hammer for MAX PRO WRESTLING in NORTH BAY OCT 3 @algonquin high school.

MAJOR PUNISHMENT

Posted in Ont.indy, Retro, Where are they now? on September 8, 2010 by wtfhwrestling

Back in the day in the RWA this guy was a pretty intense figure to all those who stood across from him.  I don’t know what he’s upto now but if you do let me know.  Wouldn’t mind seeing him still if he was still in action but I guess that goes for all the where are they nows.

Gord Rease

Back in the day in the RWA ..Gord Rease was easily one of the top heels.  Who doesn’t want to boo a grease monkey?  Haven’t they extorted us long enough??? lol  He was one of the first indy workers from here I saw in the PWI 500 so thats not so bad for him.  I guess having a name that abbreviates to grease is good for something.   He also was in the most ladder matches I can remember any worker from here being in back then.  He was escorted by OTTO BAHN for awhile ensuring his matches would really be entertaining.   Once he got banned from the RWA and challenged for there lightweight title as the masked EL MECHANICO.  His love for the wackyness and willingness to take punishment are the main reasons I dug Mr .Rease.  If you got an update on what he’s doin now hit me up and I’ll add that info.
